What is HomeSTEM Academy?

HomeSTEM Academy is a virtual STEM-focused school that combines the flexibility of homeschooling with the structure, accountability, and support of a high-quality online academic program. We serve students in elementary through middle school, with 9th grade launching in the 2026–2027 school year.

Is HomeSTEM Academy accredited?

Yes. HomeSTEM Academy is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Accreditation ensures our program meets rigorous academic and operational standards.

What grades does HomeSTEM Academy serve?
  • Current Grades: K–8
  • Coming Soon: 9th grade (2026–2027 school year)
What does a typical school week look like?
  • Monday–Thursday:
    Virtual instruction in core subjects (Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies), with structured schedules by grade level.
Is this a homeschool program?
  • Yes. HomeSTEM Academy supports families in a homeschool or hybrid homeschool model, providing curriculum, instruction, assessments, and academic guidance while partnering closely with parents.
What platform do you use for classes?

We use Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas provides:

  • Easy access to lessons and assignments
  • Communication tools for students and families
  • Progress tracking and feedback
Will HomeSTEM Academy offer high school and dual credit?

Yes. Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, HomeSTEM Academy will launch 9th grade.
We are currently in the process of partnering with Lone Star College to offer dual credit opportunities for eligible high school students.

Is HomeSTEM Academy eligible for Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA)?

HomeSTEM Academy is monitoring and preparing for participation in TEFA. We will share updates with families as the state releases final guidance and application timelines for participating schools.

How do I apply?

Families can apply online through our Apply Now page. Once your application is submitted, our team will guide you through the next steps, including enrollment and onboarding.

Are Online Studies Right for My Child?

Many students thrive in online learning environments, especially those who benefit from flexibility, personalization, and individualized support.

What Are the Technical Requirements for Online Learning?

To fully participate in HomeSTEM Academy, students will need:

  • A Windows or Mac laptop or desktop computer
  • A built-in or external camera and microphone
  • Reliable high-speed internet access

We use Canvas as our learning platform. While Canvas has a mobile app, we strongly recommend completing coursework on a laptop or desktop. Chromebooks are not recommended, as some instructional software and tools may not function properly.

What Kind of Academic and Student Support Is Available?

HomeSTEM Academy is built on a high-support model. Students can expect:

  • Virtual instruction with highly accessible teachers
  • One-on-one and small-group academic support
  • Academic advising and progress monitoring
  • Social-emotional learning (SEL) support
  • Timely teacher communication and feedback

While HomeSTEM Academy is a fully virtual program, we encourage family engagement, hands-on learning, and real-world application. Opportunities may include:

As we grow, additional enrichment and partnership opportunities will continue to expand.
